Sick kids = tired mommy!

Sick kiddos are no fun!! I would say the only positive thing about a sick kid, in my house anyway, is that the sweet cuddly side comes out. Other than that, it is just exhausting!

On Tuesday, I was packing up my shopping list, coupons and Ava stuff on my way to Target before picking Dylan up from school. Then my phone rings with "Goddard" as the caller. This is never a good sign. Well, Dylan threw up on himself during lunchtime. :( So, instead of shopping, here begins my three days of sickness.

Poor little guy was not feeling good when I got him. He took a 3 hour nap (awesome!!!) then we set up a couch bed, which we called his "sick bed". He got to watch whatever he wanted on tv, which he really enjoyed. He had a low grade fever, but no more puking...so I was feeling ok. I do not do well with throw up at all!

For the most part, the evening went by without incident and when Dylan woke up the next morning he was feeling good.

So I thought I was in the clear. Randy had to leave town on Wednesday for work and I was looking forward to a couple nights with chick flicks and a good book. Dylan was feeling good. Ava wasn't showing signs that she had caught the bug, so I thought that we were coasting.

Lesson...do not give in that easily!

Wednesday was a really good day with my brood. We got the Target errand done and even stopped by the post office to pick up some boxes. Dylan had his appetite back and really wanted frozen yogurt so I thought, why not make it an after nap excursion. This was our turning point!

I should have been warned by the wind that was blowing when I opened the garage. I considered not going because I thought we may be at the beginning of a dust storm. Well, I piled everyone in anyway to see if it was just a small thing that we could get around. Well...we pass a tree in the road on the way there. When we got to the yogurt place, Randy called and I just sat in the car chatting while surveying the weather. I decided to turn around just in case it got worse. This was the best decision I could have made!

On the way home, I heard this strange noise coming from Ava. Dylan shared that she was throwing up. When I asked if she was choking, he said yes. Since I was trapped at a red light and couldn't turn right, I threw the parking brake and hazards on then went back to check on Ava. She wasn't choking, but had throw up all over her. I mean...there wasn't a dry spot anywhere! To make matters worse, I couldn't open the window for relief from the smell because the crazy dust storm was in full effect.

This is a picture of last year's storm, but yesterday looked almost this bad!

The mom zone kicked into high gear once we got home. The lonely clean-up crew was trying not to get sick while stripping down Ava and the car seat. Once the cover was in the washing machine, the straps had been disinfected and the kids were in the tub, I was able to breathe.

Unfortunately, Ava continued to throw up until she fell asleep at 7:15pm, but woke up at 10:30pm and 3:30am for another round. Finally at 3:30, she did keep water and medicine down. Woohoo!

We are now into Thursday and here is the update:
Dylan - Feeling great and at school! Awesome!!!
Ava - Keeping food down, but still has a low grade fever. Her teething is acting up, but with some meds we are doing alright.
Mom - TIRED!

This seeems to be a 24-hour bug so hopefully we'll be back to normal tomorrow.
*Crossing my fingers.*
